Kamishibaitheaters date back to the 12th century and were used by traveling storytellers in Japan to hold the attention of their audience. Nowadays, this ancient form of storytelling is widely used in the Netherlands and Flanders, including in schools and daycare centers.
Reading to a group of children is now even more fun with the storytelling slides. While the children look at the large prints, the reader reads the text printed on the back. The plates are an A3 size. They fit in a standard kamishibaitheater or they can simply be held by the narrator.
